This Week in U.S. Immigration

Short, clear updates you can actually use.

🧑‍⚖️ 1. New BIA Decision: Matter of Cahuec Tzalam

The BIA ruled that the Immigration Judge should not have granted administrative closure because:

  • The applicant didn’t submit enough proof for SIJ eligibility

  • Visa availability is delayed for a long time

  • Closure wasn’t supported by the record

👉 This decision will make administrative closure harder in cases without strong SIJ documentation.

💵 2. USCIS Fee Increases Coming (Effective Jan 1, 2026)

USCIS will raise certain HR-1 immigration fees starting January 1, 2026.

  • Fees adjust for inflation

  • New rates will apply every year

  • USCIS will reject filings using old fees

👉 Anyone filing in 2026 must check the updated fee chart before submitting.

⚽ 3. Faster Visas for FIFA World Cup 2026 Travelers

The U.S. introduced the FIFA Pass to speed up visa appointments for fans.

  • Priority interview scheduling for people with official FIFA tickets

  • Dedicated FIFA visa portal

  • 400+ new consular officers hired

  • 80% of countries already under 60-day wait times

👉 Apply early — demand will increase as the World Cup gets closer.
