Here are the key immigration updates from this week: 👇
🪪 USCIS EAD Validity Reduced to 18 Months
For refugees, asylees, withholding of removal recipients, and applicants with pending asylum, adjustment, or cancellation cases, USCIS has reduced EAD validity back to 18 months.
This applies to applications pending or filed on/after Dec. 5, 2025.
Under H.R. 1, certain parole and TPS categories will now receive 1-year EADs or less.
⏸️ Naturalization Ceremonies Paused for 19 Countries
Ceremonies for applicants from countries on the new travel ban list—such as Venezuela, Iran, Afghanistan—have been postponed. Some interviews have also been canceled as part of the ongoing review.
⏯️ Temporary Pause on Asylum Decisions
USCIS has placed a temporary pause on asylum approvals and denials while it reviews vetting procedures.
🚨Immigration Judge Firings in New York
Eight immigration judges were dismissed in New York City, which may affect court scheduling and backlogs.
🛡️Additional Vetting for Applicants from 19 Countries
USCIS will now consider country-specific risk factors as negative factors in immigration adjudications.
This applies to all filings pending or submitted on/after Nov. 27, 2025.
